Newer iMac Processors

To find your processor, there are three pieces of information in the list that you put together to get the full name of your specific processor.

Processor Name + Processor Speed + Processor Cores

In the case of the example above, the System Report shows the following processor information:

  •        Processor Name: Intel Core i7
  •        Processor Speed: 2.8 Ghz
  •        Total Number of Cores: 4

Converted to the complete processor name, you get:

2.8Ghz Quad Core i7

Note: For 2 cores, use the word Dual in the name, for 4 cores use the word Quad. The example above has 4 cores, so it is a Quad Core processor.

Older iMac Processors

iMac models from Late 2010 and earlier had different processor names. They were:

  •        Intel Core Duo
  •        Intel Core 2 Duo

These processors all had two cores, so you only need the Processor Name and the Processor Speed. For example, if you see this information on your iMac:

  •        Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
  •        Processor Speed: 2.0 Ghz

The processor name is:

2.0Ghz Core 2 Duo
